9 ½ Minute Performance Parade

Target Audience: Middle and High School Students

Objectives: Increase awareness of the frequency of HIV infection in the US… the tragedy continues

Materials Needed:

• A box stage for cafeteria performers
• PA system if possible

Steps to Complete Activity:

1. During lunch periods in cafeteria, set up a box stage and have students perform short pieces that can be either ended or interrupted every 9 ½ minutes. A time keeper will let performers know when they have 30 seconds left in the segment.
2. At the end of every segment the MC announces that another individual in the US has contracted HIV and follows with a fact about HIV.
3. After three segments (29 minutes), have MC lead a Q&A session with students.
